Step 6 of 7: Create the Related Pulley Beam and Pulleys

PL2.6: Add and create related Components to your Car Frame

Written by Alexandra Göttert

This step attaches a pulley beam, and its pulleys, to the car frame you finished in the before.

Prerequisites

  • The car frame exists in the DigiPara BIM Library.

Steps

1.) Copy a similar pulley beam. In DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager, find a similar existing pulley beam, click Copy BIM Components, and step through the wizard to create your own copy — the same copy mechanism used for the car frame.

2.) Edit its meta data and mode settings. In Edit Mode, give the copied pulley beam its own description. The pulley beam's Mode setting determines which corresponding positioning points get added and defined later, in the Developer Work Area — set it to match the configuration you need before continuing.

3.) Assign the pulley beam to the finished car frame. Open the car frame's row in Datamanager and locate its pulley-beam relation field (e.g. CFD_PB_RID). Click into it to open the Select Product dialog, browse to your new pulley beam, and confirm.

4.) Determine the pulley beam angle using the corresponding mode. Still on the car frame's row, set its pulley-beam-angle field (e.g. CFD_PB_ALPHA). This field only takes effect once the matching flag is enabled in the car frame's mode bitmask (e.g. checking APPLY_CFD_PB_ALPHA in the Option dialog for CFD_MODE) — open that dialog and check the flag.

5.) Add and define a new pulley. If no similar pulley already exists to copy, add a brand-new record directly in the pulley type table (e.g. Sheaves → L_PulleyTypeTab) via its Add… button, and fill in its description and dimension fields (e.g. PUT_DESC, PUT_D, PUT_DI, PUT_DA), plus any groove data in the related dimension table (e.g. L_PulleyDimTab).

6.) Assign the new pulleys to the finished pulley beam. Open the pulley beam's row and set its pulley relation field(s) to the RID(s) of the pulley(s) you just created — the same relation-assignment pattern used in step 3.

7.) Reload the modified components. Make sure you are no longer in Edit Mode, then reload the car frame and pulley beam in Liftdesigner by re-entering their RID in the Properties window, so both pick up the relations you just created.

8.) Add and define the positioning points of both pulleys. In the Developer Work Area, add characteristic points for each pulley — following the same point-typing and positioning approach as Step 5 for the car frame (e.g. setting a point's Type to Pulley beam [60] and its Position fields).

9.) Add, customize, and save the pulley beam's profiles. Add and define new pulley beam profiles the same way you did for the car frame (Type, Orientation, Size & Position). Copy and customize profiles using Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V, repositioning mirrored copies by reversing the signs in an existing formula. Finish by saving the pulley beam into the DigiPara BIM Library.

Result

The car frame now references a fully developed pulley beam, which in turn carries its own pulleys — all correctly positioned and saved into the DigiPara BIM Library.
