Set up the DigiPara Liftdesigner API Sample Project

Download, configure, and run the DigiPara Liftdesigner API Sample Project in Visual Studio — a starting point for developing and customizing a .NET Reference Model against the core Liftdesigner LDXObjects API.

Written by Sabine Bunese

Prerequisites

  • Windows 10 or higher.

  • 8 GB RAM or more.

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 installed.

  • DigiPara Liftdesigner installed.

  • Access to the DigiPara Download Portal.

  • Advanced proficiency in VB.NET and the Liftdesigner Core API (this is developer-level content).

Download and open the sample project

  1. Download the latest version.
Select the latest version of the API Samples for DigiPara Liftdesigner from the Download Portal.

  2. Unzip the downloaded file.

  3. Open the solution file.
Run the DigiPara Liftdesigner API Samples.sln in Microsoft Visual Studio.

Import the API library into your data pool

  1. Locate the active data pool.
In the Poolmanager, verify the data pool set as 'System UI'.

  2. Import the DigiPara Liftdesigner API library file.
Copy the module fiel (ldm12) into that data pool's Import folder. Standard path: C:\ProgramData\DigiPara\dcc\DataPool\Import.

  3. Start DigiPara Liftdesigner to import the library file.

Configure Visual Studio

Before debugging the project in Visual Studio, complete these required setup steps:

Change the solution build output path

  1. Right-click the project name (LDAPIExamples) and select Properties.

  2. Under the Compile tab, set the build output path to your active data pool folder: ...\data\AppMacros.

Configure the Debug start action

The sample project is not a standalone application — it must be run through Liftdesigner.

  1. Navigate to the Debug tab.

  2. Change the Start Action to Start external program.

  3. Click Browse... and select the LDOOP_UI_64.exe executable. Standard path: C:\Program Files\DigiPara\DigiPara Liftdesigner 20xx\bin\x64\LDOOP_UI_64.exe.

  4. If not already set, enter /StartProgram Liftdesigner.exe in the command line arguments field.

Verify the project assemblies

Before running the program, confirm the two main project assemblies — DigiPara.LD.CustomInterfaces.dll and DigiPara.LDX.dll — are correctly linked.

  1. Open the References tab.

  2. Set the reference paths to point to the \bin folder of your installed Liftdesigner directory. Standard path: C:\Program Files\DigiPara\DigiPara Liftdesigner 20xx\bin.

  3. Click Add Folder, then OK. The reference paths are updated.

Run the project in DigiPara Liftdesigner

  1. With all paths configured, run the program in Debug mode from Visual Studio. DigiPara Liftdesigner starts in Debug Mode.

  2. Access the Add-In: Start the sample Add-In from the LDX API Examples ribbon.

  3. Select an example: In the pop-up window, select the example you want and click Load ld3 file to load the corresponding Liftdesigner file.

  4. Execute: Once the file is loaded, click Run example to execute the automation.

Result: The selected example runs against the loaded Liftdesigner file. For the example described in the source, the car door reference is set to Center with a distance of 333 mm — confirming the sample project, its library import, and its Visual Studio configuration are all working correctly together.
