Prerequisites
You can select single or multiple dimensions and understand how dimension IDs control a chain's ordering.
Pitfall: Changing the global dimension chain description affects every view, and every project — new and old alike. If you need a one-off label, store the text separately rather than overwriting the global, referenced description with fixed text.
Steps
1.) Understand that chain descriptions are referenced, translated text. The dimension caption visible in print mode is a reference, not fixed text — this is what allows the description to be translated into different languages (stored in the database). As a sheet template developer, you'll learn to manage and create these translations in an advanced training module.
2.) Show or hide the description via the view frame's properties. Dimension descriptions can be shown or hidden via the properties of the view frame.
3.) Align the dimension caption. Align the dimension caption via the Properties related to the dimension, the view frame, or the sheet.
Result
You understand why chain descriptions are referenced rather than fixed text, how to show/hide them per view frame, and how to align them at different levels.
