Step 3 of 16: Create the Basic Dynamic Sheet Template Files

B2.3: Prepare Title Block and Drawings Border as well as an empty Sheet

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • The Liftdesigner project exists in Liftdesginer.

  • Understood what standard sheet templates are.

Steps

1.) Understand what a DST is. A Dynamic Sheet Template can display different, project-specific content — drawing borders (.dwg), title blocks (.dwg), view frames (.ldf), and external blocks (.dwg, .jpg, etc.) — configured via sheet-related rules, rather than a fixed layout. It doesn't need to contain any static content like views or external blocks at all; the whole content can be loaded dynamically by rules. The basic DST sheet is stored the same way as a Standard Sheet Template.

2.) Create new folders in the data pool. Add new folders with your own description under sheets (e.g. MyDST-ViewFrame) and blocks (e.g. MyDST-dwg) to keep your DST content organized.

3.) Create and save a new drawing border and title block (*.dwg). Copy an existing, similar DWG file into the data pool.

Title blocks start with the titl_ prefix, and drawing borders start with the bord_ prefix.

Can be copied from the existing Liftdesigner dwg files.

4.) Add a new empty sheet (*.lds). Load a sheet without any rules in Liftdesigner — you can use the prepared Empty.lds sheet already in your data pool.

5.) Rename the new empty sheet, and save it as a basic DST. Give the sheet template its own, unique designation in the Sheet Properties window before saving — otherwise the template will be overwritten with the next software update. Then remove the view frame and save the dynamic sheet template file (.lds). Close the new sheet after this step.

Result

Your data pool has organized folders for DST content, a renamed drawing border and title block DWG, and a basic, content-free DST sheet saved and ready to configure.
