Add an Additional Wall Opening or Segment

Add a wall opening (a void cut into a wall) or a wall segment (an extra piece of wall) relative to a shaft or other component.

Written by Sabine Bunese

Prerequisites

  • The component you want to add the opening or segment to (e.g. a shaft) already exists in your project

  • You know how to open the Additional Objects docking window.

Wall Opening

Steps

  1. Select the parent component.
    (e.g. Shaft) in your project.

  2. Add a new Additional Wall Opening.
Use the add new function under the group Additional Wall Openings in the Additional Objects docking window.

  3. Set its description and location.
Rename the created Hole Object, choose the shaft wall to place the hole and position it relative to the wall base point.

  4. Adjust its position and size.
Check the dimension to edit: Hole X0/Z0, Hole DX/DZ or Hole X1/Z1.

Wall Opening Customization

LD2027 Release

Hole positions can now be adjusted independently of their parent component — location and dimensions become directly editable.

Prerequisites

  • Standard holes: Customize mode must be activated

  • Ventilation window holes: can be switched to customized when needed

  • Additional wall openings: already behave as customized by default

Steps

  1. Select the hole element.
Use the Breadcrumb, Data tree or the view frame.

  2. Set the Customize property to Yes.
This property will be available for standard ventilation window holes. Additional wall opening already have these properties as default.

  3. Customize the wall opening.
Edit the hole dimensions, X, Y, and Z location, shape and the coordinate system for the relative position.

NOTE: Once Customize is activated, the hole no longer automatically follows changes to the parent component — component changes may need to be applied manually afterwards.

Result

The hole sits exactly at the desired position with the desired dimensions, independent of the parent component's default logic.

Wall Segment

Steps

  1. Select the parent component.
    (e.g. Shaft) in your project.

  2. Add a new Additional Wall Segment.
Use the add function in the Additional Objects docking window.

  3. Set its description and location.
Rename the created Segment Object, choose the shaft wall to place the segment and position it relative to the wall base point.

  4. Adjust its position and size.
Check the dimension to edit: Segment X0/Z0, Segment DX/DZ or Segment X1/Z1.

  5. Set the material.
Select the new segment in your project and change its material via the Properties docking window.

Wall Segment Customization

The customization of a segment follows the same steps as the wall opening customization.

Result

A new additional wall opening or wall segment is created, positioned and sized as you configured — and, for a wall segment, with the material you assigned.
