Step 17 of 17: Practice: Build a Complete Sheet with Views, Detail Sections, Annotations, and Project References

A3.17: After Training Practice

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • The full view frame, sheet, annotation, Data tree, External$, and DWG block workflow from this tutorial.

Steps

Part 1: views, a detail section, and annotations

1.) Create a new sheet ("My Views") with a border and title block. Create a new sheet, add a Machine Room View and a Plan View, add drawing border bord_2h.dwg and title block titl_rop_int.dwg, position the views inside the drawing border, rename the sheet to My Views, and save the sheet template.

2.) Add a rail bracket detail section. Copy the existing plan view, create a simple detail section for the rail bracket, change the view description, and save the sheet template again.

3.) Add component annotations to the shaft doors. Add a component annotation to the front and rear shaft door on the plan view, with text height 3.5, and save the sheet template again.

Part 2: project reference annotations and a rule-based detail section

4.) Add project reference annotations. Create a new Plan view and add a view frame annotation containing: shaft depth, shaft width, and floor count. Then create a shaft lamp component annotation containing: lamp count and lamp type. Save the sheet template again.

5.) Add a rule-based detail section in both directions. Add a rule-based plan view detail section (X and Y direction) to My Views: copy the existing plan view, then set X-Min to (-) left wall, X-Max to shaft width + right wall, Y-Min to (-) front wall - 20, and Y-Max to ½ shaft depth + front wall. Check the result by changing the CW and CD dimensions, then save the sheet template and the entire project again.

Result

The My Views sheet includes a Machine Room View and Plan View inside a bord_2h/titl_rop_int border and title block, a rail bracket detail section, component annotations on the front/rear shaft doors, project-reference annotations (shaft depth/width/floor count, lamp count/type), and a fully rule-based, two-direction detail section verified against dimension changes — everything saved to the sheet template and the project.

Tutorial complete

This was the final step of the A3 Drawing Creation Fundamentals tutorial. You've covered view frames and section planes (creation, types, direction, floor levels, positioning, scale, section planes, visibility, the prototype DWG), special view types (simple and rule-based detail sections, vertical splits, symbolic vertical sections), sheets and sheet templates, annotations, the Data tree and project references, External$'s (syntax, calculations), external DWG blocks, title blocks and drawing borders, and worked through a complete practice example combining all of it.
