What's new in Liftdesigner 2027

The 2027 release enhances car-frame configuration, view frame control, and shaft component handling. It also updates annotations, drawing output, and the component creation workflow.

Written by Sabine Bunese

Configuring Shaft and Component Geometry

This section covers changes to physical elevator parameters: car-frame geometry, shaft components such as ladders and lamps, and direct control over hole positions.

Set Car-Frame-to-Guide Distances Independently

The left and right distances between the car frame and the guide rails can now be set independently. Previously, both sides were always updated together symmetrically.

Configure Pit Ladder

Three pit ladder types are now available as standard in the Common Components library and can be freely configured via step and fixing parameters

Synchronize Lamps with Separator Beams

Lamp placement in the shaft can now be synchronized automatically with the separator beams instead of positioning each lamp individually.

Hole Position Customization

Hole positions can now be adjusted independently of their parent component — location and dimensions become directly editable.

Creating and Managing Drawings

This section covers improvements to view frame control, annotation options, and drawing output — including changes that affect how drawings are presented, exported, and laid out.

Set a Custom Car Position in View Frames

A custom car position option is now available on individual view frames. Previously, the car position was limited to a fixed list of predefined options (bottom, top service floor, top service floor including runby, and others).

Suppress Intermediate Floors in Shaft Overhead and Pit Views

Within the existing Symbolic Representation function for vertical views, intermediate floors can now be suppressed. This generates a condensed view showing only the shaft head and pit.

Review and Filter Records in the Overwrites Docking Window

Three improvements make the Overwrites docking window easier to work with: stable index-based ordering, a value display column, and column-based filtering.

Edit DWG External References via the "Show all Externals" Dialog

DWG external references can now be listed and edited from a single dialog. Previously, updating title block information required locating each external reference individually through the Data tree.

Configure Leader Line Positioning Manually

The Leader line option property now accepts explicit values that override automatic positioning — for drawing conventions that require the leader to attach from a fixed side regardless of annotation position.

Use Circular Annotation Borders

Circular annotation borders are now a native annotation type. Previously, round annotations required DWG overrides, which added complexity and made them harder to maintain.

Set the Clipping Plane for Landing Doors in Plan View

Landing doors in plan views now have a Clipping Plane option. This mirrors the equivalent feature that already existed for cabin views in vertical sections. Previously, controlling the cut height could only be addressed through manual workarounds.

Change Notes

Hole Symbols — Clipping and Round Shaft Openings

Two changes affect how hole symbols appear in section views:

  • Clipping: Hole symbols in detail section and symbolic representation views are now clipped to the visible area of the view frame section. Previously, symbols could extend beyond section boundaries.

  • Round shaft openings: These now render with hatches, consistent with how rectangular holes have always been shown.

PDF Export — White Background

PDF export now always uses a white background, regardless of the application background setting. If you work with a dark or coloured background, the exported PDF previously inherited that background. The export now overrides the display setting and outputs white. This change applies automatically to all PDF exports; no configuration is needed.

Developing and Maintaining BIM Components

This section covers changes for users who develop or maintain BIM components: copying components, searching the data tree, and rotation flags for ventilation windows.

Save to a New BIM Component

A new Save to a new BIM component option is available in the Save this BIM Component dialog. It handles the copy workflow without requiring you to switch between Liftdesigner and Datamanager.

Use Scope Options in the Data Tree Search

The data tree search dialog now offers four scope options, and results jump directly to the corresponding location in the tree.

Configure VTW_MODE Flags for Ventilation Windows

Ventilation window components can now receive VTW_MODE flags that make them correctly rotatable. Without these flags, certain ventilation window placements render incorrectly in the model.

Installation, Tracking, and Session Persistence

This section covers installation behaviour, file-level tracking, and session persistence improvements.

Transfer Layout Settings When Installing a New Major Version

Layout settings can now be transferred when installing a new major version. A one-time prompt during the first install lets you import personal workspace settings from the previous installation.

Change Notes

LDX File Timestamps and User Tracking

LDX files now record created and modified timestamps along with the responsible user. This is tracked across the User Comp, Profile Group, and Rules tables.

Liftdesigner now writes this information consistently with Datamanager, so the audit trail in the file is reliable regardless of where a change was made.

Relevance for administrators: Useful for managing large project portfolios and for answering questions about who changed what and when — e.g. during library maintenance or when investigating unexpected changes in shared components.

Liftpoolmanager Export Checkbox Persistence

The export checkbox selections in the Liftpoolmanager library dialog are now saved to the user profile between sessions. Previously, the selection — covering which combinations of CAD files, texture files, sheets, sheet frames, and other items to include in an export — reset to defaults every time the dialog was opened.
