Step 13 of 14: Prepare and Add a Dynamic Rule to your Car Frame

PL3.13: Add dynamic BIM Component Rules

Written by Alexandra Göttert

This step links the platform profiles' length to the car depth using a rule.

Prerequisites

  • The car frame has product options tied to specific CAD occurrences, correctly reflected in its positioning points, and toggleable from the Options and Rules docking window.

Steps

1.) Convert the relevant CAD occurrences into simplified profiles. Convert any platform-related CAD occurrences you still need dynamic into simplified DigiPara Liftdesigner profiles first — a rule can only act on native profile parameters, not on plain CAD geometry.

2.) Create a user-defined 3D parameter for the car depth link. In DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager, open the car frame's row and type a value into an empty, gray user column — this becomes your new 3D parameter.

3.) Reload the car frame in DigiPara Liftdesigner. Make sure you're no longer in Edit Mode, then reload the car frame by re-entering its RID in the Properties window.

4.) Assign the new 3D parameter to the profile. Select the platform profile from step 1 and, in its Properties window, set the relevant size or position field to the new parameter's name.

5.) Open the Rule Editor and activate Developer mode. Select the car frame and click Rule Editor on the Develop BIM Components ribbon tab. Select the Developer setting — required before you can add a rule component.

6.) Define the rule's description and tree structure. Add a rule component for the car frame and give it a clear description, then set its tree/structure fields so it's easy to find later.

7.) Define the rule's condition and assignment. In the rule's matrix editor, set the condition to reference the car frame's Car Depth parameter, and the assignment to reference the user-defined 3D parameter from step 2 — so the platform profile's length responds to the car depth.

8.) Save the new rule. Click Save All to Database to store the finished rule.

9.) Test the new dynamic rule, and check Options and Rules. In DigiPara Liftdesigner, change the car frame's Car Depth to a value at or below 1400 mm, then to a value above 1400 mm, and confirm the platform profile's length changes accordingly. You can also activate or deactivate the option and the rule directly from the Options and Rules docking window.

Result

The car frame's platform profile length now adjusts automatically based on the car depth, driven by a saved dynamic rule.
