What is the LDAWP WebAdmin Application?

The LDAWP WebAdmin is a web-based interface for monitoring and maintaining an LDAWP server without needing Remote Desktop access.

Definition

The LDAWP WebAdmin is a web-based interface for monitoring and maintaining an LDAWP server — server statistics, running processes, Maintenance Mode, module upgrades, test XML files, and test-URL building — without needing Remote Desktop (RDP) access to the server itself. Where the desktop LDAWP Administrator application is used for the initial, one-time setup of LDAWP (service user, LDOOP permissions, Drawing Generation Service, and so on), WebAdmin is the day-to-day, browser-based tool for keeping an already-configured server running.

How it works

WebAdmin is organized into the following sections, each covering a distinct part of ongoing server administration:

  1. Overview.
Main server statistics: hardware information and CPU performance, installed web applications and services on IIS, and the running Liftdesigner (LDOOP) instances with their configured timeout.

  2. Processes.
Monitors all active LDOOP processes on the server, and allows manually terminating inactive Liftdesigner processes that have exceeded their configured Web Service or LDOOP timeout.

  3. Maintenance.
Activates Maintenance Mode across compatible installed web applications — for LDAWP specifically (which prevents new drawing generations from starting), or toggled for all installed IIS web applications or web services at once.

  4. LD Cloud Updates.
Seamlessly updates installed Liftdesigner Cloud modules without an RDP connection (requires a Cloud contract). Enabling Maintenance Mode first is recommended, and an update cannot start while an LDOOP instance is active.

  5. Upgrades.
Manual library installation: upload and import Liftdesigner modules (.ldm12) directly into the data pool. As with LD Cloud Updates, this cannot start while an LDOOP instance is active.

  6. Model XML.
Upload new XML files for a test environment, or delete redundant ones.

  7. LDOOP Pool.
Configure the number of preloaded LDOOP instances running on the server and the initialization project used for them.

  8. URL Builder.
Generates test URLs for installations, Model XML files, and module updates — supporting SVG, PDF, and 3D previews (including LOD features) alongside selected downloads, with model selection from the Inbound directory or the Liftdesigner data pool, fully configurable drawing language/plot style/DWG mode/version, and a "Stress Test" option for scenarios where no preview is needed.

Distinguishing WebAdmin from related concepts

  • WebAdmin vs. LDAWP Administrator — LDAWP Administrator is the desktop application used to install and configure LDAWP itself (service user, LDOOP permissions, Drawing Generation Service/Web Application settings, IIS permission fixes). WebAdmin is the browser-based tool for ongoing monitoring and maintenance once that setup is done. The LDOOP Pool setting and URL Builder function are the two areas where WebAdmin and LDAWP Administrator overlap in what they let you configure or do.

  • WebAdmin's URL Builder vs. manually building a test URL — both produce the same kind of preview/test URL; the URL Builder does it through a form in WebAdmin, while "Build a test URL for an LDAWP installation" covers constructing the URL by hand from its documented parameters.

  • Upgrades vs. LD Cloud Updates — Upgrades is manual, offline module installation (.ldm12 files you upload yourself); LD Cloud Updates is an online update mechanism that requires a Cloud contract. Both share the restriction that they cannot run while an LDOOP instance is active.
