Step 12 of 14: Add the Light's CAD Model using the Developer Work Area and Delete Unneeded Profiles

PL9.12: Manage your CAD Model in Liftdesigner and save back to the database

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • The lights component's rule is working.

  • The light's CAD model file, in one of DigiPara Liftdesigner's supported formats.

Steps

1.) Load the Developer Work Area. Select the corresponding BIM component in an existing view frame and click Develop this BIM Component.

2.) Add your CAD model. Using a developer section view in the Developer Work Area, insert your CAD model. It is placed at the base point of the BIM component.

see the file attached

3.) Align your CAD model using X, Y, and Z coordinates. On the CAD Models ribbon tab, use the X, Y, and Z orientation controls to align the model.

4.) Position your CAD model and confirm the CAD model settings. Confirm Include in Save to BIM Library is set to Yes: Frozen for STEP files, so the CAD file is included when saving to the database, and confirm Picking selects parent is set to Yes, so the parent BIM component — not the CAD sub-model — is what gets selected in non-developer view frames.

5.) Identify Profile 0 and leave it in place. Confirm which profile is Profile 0 before deleting anything.

Pitfall: Do not delete Profile 0 — it's the special DigiPara Liftdesigner geometry the ambient light rule depends on.

6.) Delete the remaining unneeded profiles via the Additional Objects window. Open the Additional Objects docking window and delete any other native DigiPara Liftdesigner profiles now made redundant by the CAD model.

7.) Select the developer section and save. Select the relevant developer section, then save the finished BIM component into the DigiPara BIM Library.

8.) Remove leftover copied dynamic properties that ended up unused. In DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager, review the light's record for copied dynamic properties that came along from the source component but were never actually used in your finished version, and remove them.

Result

The light's CAD model is inserted, aligned, correctly positioned and configured to save and select correctly. Only the geometry the ambient light rule needs — Profile 0 — remains alongside the CAD model, and the finished light is saved.

The light's data in the DigiPara BIM Library only contains what the finished component actually uses. This completes the cabin design components (walls, ceiling, floor, mirrors, hand rails, and lights).
