Step 1 of 10: Understand Layer & Style Configuration Requirements

B3.1: Knowledge and Preparation Steps

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • Basic to advanced knowledge of AutoCAD is required for this tutorial — specifically the Dimension Style Manager, Layer Properties, and Text Style Manager.

  • DigiPara Liftdesigner and DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager are installed, with write access to the data pool you want to extend.

Steps

1.) Understand what has to be provided and linked. To provide customized layouts in DigiPara Liftdesigner drawings according to your own company standard, two things must be provided and linked in the database: a prototype DWG file (containing all layout settings — layers, dimension styles, and text styles) and layer configuration tables (determining global object layers and styles, or configurations for each individual DigiPara Liftdesigner component — an "LDX object"). Layer and text-/dimension styles themselves are configured via DigiPara Liftdesigner Datamanager definitions, and loaded from the prototype DWG file.

2.) Understand the four object types that get mapped. Four types of DigiPara Liftdesigner objects can be mapped to target objects in the AutoCAD prototype DWG file:

  • Layer — refers to DigiPara Liftdesigner components (the shaft, car, car door, etc.). Object layers can be configured either globally (only for the LDXNone object) or for each single LDX object.

  • Dimstyle — each internal dimension style can be mapped to any target dimension style in the prototype DWG, configured globally or component-wise.

  • Textstyle — each internal text style can be mapped to any target text style in the prototype DWG.

  • Block — each internal static drawing block (e.g. the floor level symbol, mouse cursors) can be mapped to a predefined drawing block (insert) in the prototype DWG. Cursor symbol blocks (Block_LD_CURSOR_*) must be scaled 1:1; the scale factor for all other blocks can be adjusted individually.

3.) Note that configurations can target different unit systems. Layer and style configurations can be created for either a metric or an imperial unit system.

Result

You understand what a custom layer/style configuration is made of — a prototype DWG plus layer configuration tables — and the four object types (Layer, Dimstyle, Textstyle, Block) it maps between DigiPara Liftdesigner and AutoCAD.
