Export Component Tables to Excel

Export one or more database tables to an Excel file.

Written by Sabine Bunese

Useful for reviewing or bulk-editing component data outside the DataManager, or for sharing table content with someone who doesn't have the DataManager installed.

Prerequisites

  • The DataManager is open.

Steps

  1. Click Export (Options tab → Excel group).
The Export tables to Excel dialog opens.

  2. Select the RID Area.
The manufacturer module scope to export from.

  3. Select the tables to export.
Check individual tables in the list, or use Select all to export every table in that RID Area.

  4. Click Target Filename.
Choose where to save the Excel file.

  5. Click Export to Excel File... to run the export.

  6. Click Open in Excel, if you want to review the result immediately.

Import (Excel group → Import)

Steps

  1. Click Import (Options tab → Excel group).
The Import tables from Excel dialog opens.

  2. Click Select Excel file.
Browse to the workbook you want to bring in — typically one produced by the Export tables to Excel steps above (or hand-edited afterward), following the same one-sheet-per-table layout.

  3. Choose which tables to import.
Under Contains Input Tables — Select all is checked by default; uncheck any sheet/table you don't want brought in.

  4. Click Import now to run the import.
A status/output area at the bottom of the dialog reports the result.

NOTE: Exporting is scoped to one RID Area at a time — if the table you need lives in a different manufacturer/module scope, you'll need to switch the RID Area and export again.

Result

An Excel file containing the selected table(s), which you can open, edit, or share independently of the Datamanager and reimport to the database.
