Step 16 of 16: Use Annotation Overwrites in Vertical Views

EL2.16: Sheet Templates Settings for Shaft Groups - Annotations

Written by Alexandra Göttert

Prerequisites

  • You can place annotations across a shaft group in plan views using extended *operations.

Steps

1.) Understand the index-vs- naming for vertical views.* Vertical view overwrite names follow a with-index / with-* pattern:

  • Shaft0 (first shaft) → Shaft* (all shafts)

  • Entries1 (entrances on the front) → Entries* (all entrances, all sides)

  • E0 (first floor) → E* (all floors)

2.) Practical example 1 — Shaft3.Entries1.E*{Last}. Places the annotation only on the 4th shaft, front entrance, top floor.

3.) Practical example 2 — Shaft1.Entries1.E*{IndexFromStart, +3}. Places the annotation only on the 2nd shaft, front entrance, 3rd floor from the start. The shaft index can also be edited manually, e.g. changing Shaft3 to Shaft1.

4.) Practical example 3 — Shaft*{First, Bank 1}.Entries1.E*{IndexFromStart, +3}. Places the annotation only on Bank 1's first shaft, front entrance, 3rd floor from start.

Pitfall: Be careful which bank you actually need the annotation on — imagine a colleague rotates the view frame and the second bank becomes the visible one instead.

Result

You can target a specific shaft, entrance, and floor combination in a vertical view — by fixed index, by position from the end or start, or by bank — while staying aware of which bank the annotation is actually meant for.

Tutorial complete

This was the final step of the EL2 Shaft Groups & High Rise tutorial. You've learned how to build and manage shaft groups (creation, floor levels, wall openings, separator beams), optimize performance with Sloppy Mode and the Performance Profiler, worked through the full recommended workflow for a double deck elevator group, positioned and aligned face-to-face shaft groups with their machine room and building floor settings, and configured sheet templates for shaft groups — including view frame configuration and dimension/annotation overwrites using extended *operations.
