Replace a component's default rectangular or standard profile shape with a custom outline of your own — for example an L-shaped or notched cross-section — by positioning characteristic points and linking them to a profile.
Prerequisites
A BIM component open in the Developer Work Area in DigiPara Liftdesigner.
Steps
1.) Add and position characteristic points for the outline. In the Additional Objects docking window, add new characteristic points under the component. Position each point using only its X0 and Y0 coordinates — the Z0 direction is not used for the outline.
Pitfall: The points must be created in the exact order you want them connected — the outline follows the point sequence, not their position in space.
2.) Assign the "User defined Outline" point code. Select all the points that belong to this outline and, in the multi-selection Properties window, set Type to User defined Outline 0 (or the next free outline number if the component already has one).
3.) Link the point contour to a new profile and set its thickness. Add a new profile under DigiPara Geometry, and in its Properties window set Shape to the matching User defined Outline entry (e.g. [-2000]). Set the profile's DX value to define the extrusion thickness along the outline.
Reviewer note: For a component that needs several profiles with different individual contours, the source recommends also setting each developer view frame's [4220]
Developer → Develop outline field to the matching outline, so each view frame shows the correct contour while editing. Confirm this is a required step and not just a convenience setting.
4.) Save the BIM component back into the DigiPara BIM Library. Use Save this BIM Component → Update the existing BIM component. In the save wizard's "What is part of your BIM component?" step, confirm that the characteristic points are included (listed as "Characteristic Points").
Result
The profile now follows your custom outline instead of a standard shape, extruded to the thickness you set.
